NOTES |
District/School Liaison Team (DSLT) and SAIT meet to review SAIT program and legal requirements. |
2-3 hours |
The Academic Performance Survey (APS) is provided. The APS, the nine Essential Program Components (EPCs) and acceptable evidence are explained. The SAIT process is explained and reviewed. |
District and site together complete APS. |
|
APS to be compiled and sent to ALS. The completed APS contains an average score per item along with all comments found on individual surveys. |
ALS will have a team of 2-5 individuals come to the site to complete their own APS based on a review of evidence and individual conferences with district and site representatives. |
1 day at the school site (with several work days in ALS office) |
This is a closed session for the ALS team, although it may be necessary to clarify questions or concerns. The ALS team does this work at the school campus for one day. |
The SAIT extends the offer to do brief (5 minutes per class) classroom visits. |
Depending on the size of the school this can be 1 day to 1 1/2 days of observations. |
While this is not a required part of the SAIT process, many schools desire this level of familiarity during the SAIT process. This is a school and district decision. |
The ALS SAIT meets with the DSLT to review the SAIT findings for the APS. This is then repeated for the entire school staff. |
Approximately 2 hours |
Usually, it takes about 45 minutes to share the report with the DSLT and another hour or so to share with the entire school staff. |
The ALS team will develop recommendations for corrective actions based on the APS report of findings in order to facilitate full implementation of the nine EPCs. The resulting final document is the Report of Findings and Recommendations for Corrective Actions. |
1-2 days in the ALS office; while ALS determines the recommendations, the logistics for implementing them is a team approach requiring input from the DSLT. This process can take anywhere from 2 hours to a full day depending on how the school does on the APS. |
|
SAIT presents the report to the DSLT and subsequently to the local governing board.
|
The recommendations are also presented to the staff, taking 30-40 minutes, and presented at the following regularly scheduled meeting of the local governing board. The local board adopts the Report of Findings and Recommendations for Corrective Actions, and ALS submits the report to the State Superintendent of Public Instruction. |
|
The SAIT monitors the school’s progress in meeting benchmarks in implementing all corrective actions for each of the nine EPCs. |
The SAIT’s progress reports are presented at regularly scheduled meetings of the local governing board and submitted to the State Superintendent of Public Instruction.
|
The cost is $75,000 for elementary and middle schools and $100,000 for high schools from APS to the completion of the SAIT recommendations per CDE guidelines. For ALS this also includes two quarterly monitoring visits for the first year, subsequent board presentations, and assistance in the submission of all CDE-required documentation during year one. In addition, ALS will monitor progress three times annually as required over the next two years. The cost does not include any ALS assistance the school may want in implementing the SAIT corrective actions and the nine EPCs. |
